  1. Whole school Review
  2. Leadership training/conference for LA for selected teachers.
  3. Pre and post inspection support
  4. Developing subject leaders
  5. Headteacher / adviser / SLE support

What people say

Pre and post inspection support

We have really appreciated your input, and your positivity. In particular, your positive outlook when you came in just before the inspection. That made a big difference to the mindset of staff, and helped them find the confidence to shine. HT Riverside Primary, Hullbridge 2.13

Dear Carole, Lyons Hall was inspected this week and came out “outstanding” in all areas other than attendance. Andrew phoned me to let me know what had happened and asked me to thank you two in particular for the support that you have given the school and the role that you have played in getting the school to that judgement. Senior Improvement adviser, Essex CC

Subject Leader support

Thank you for helping me on Wednesday. It has helped me to clarify a few things in my head and to see where I need to go and I feel more positive again. LSL, The Willows Primary, Essex

Thank you again for all your support so far, it has been so helpful for me since taking on this role and I really appreciate it. Stanford-le-Hope, Thurrock. Maths subject leader support

Hi Carole! Many thanks for your input on Monday a.m. – what a breath of fresh air! At the local literacy co-ordinators group meeting we mentioned your visit and what a good use of time it was so you may get a call from another Felixstowe school soon. Looking forward to the 6th. Whole School Reviews

Dear Carole, Thank you for leading the LA Review and for an extremely well written and constructive report. Head of Primary Improvement Essex CC

Thanks for your email, kind words and all of your positive feedback and support re the review and plan. Deputy Headteacher, Willows Primary, Essex

Hi Carole. It was great to work with you today. It was good to hear that the school viewed the feedback in such a positive light, considering they now have lots to do and you had to deliver some hard messages. I think you drew the important points together very well and left them with some clear ways to move forward and make the improvements necessary. A great job all round and a very successful day. Regional Adviser, National strategies

Dear Carole, Just a quick email to say a huge thank you for the work, time and effort that has gone in to the organisation of the programmes of support across all the curriculum areas. You have been part of the successful launches for all the current programmes and have been at the heart of the diplomatic success keeping the schools, our ‘customers’ on board. Many, many thanks. Primary Improvement Curriculum Manager

Many thanks for the copy of your notebook. It represent not just a lot of work on the notebook itself, but all that you contribute to the success of our organisation. I have had the privilege of working with you, watching you in other contexts and seeing the range of skills and abilities you bring to your work. Thank you so much. Leadership and Management support

Hi Carole. I just wanted to say thank you for your help and support this year. You are always there to listen or help in any way you can. It is really reassuring to know that I can talk to you about problems as well as successes. You have been so supportive and I really feel like you have helped me to become a better consultant. Literacy Consultant re line management support

I found it very valuable observing the lessons with you and discussing them afterwards. It was really interesting to hear your comments and links with OFSTED judgements. Literacy Consultant

We are writing to thank you on the behalf on the National Strategies for agreeing to be a facilitator at the Leading Teacher events last month. The contribution from the Essex team was excellent – leading teachers, heads and consultants. Evaluations from the events have been very positive indeed and people particularly valued the opportunities both to hear from people leading and carrying out this work – and also to closely question colleagues in the group discussions and informally throughout the day. We know that your input has fired the enthusiasm of Strategic Leads in other LAs to follow your example, and the funded programme is now being rolled out to more Authorities during the course of next year. Pete Dudley, National Strategies at Leading Teacher Strategic Lead event

Thank you very much for organising such a helpful visit to Essex yesterday and making it possible for us to meet with so many of your team and heads. I realise these visits take considerable time and effort to organise on your part, particularly at such short notice. We found the sessions to be extremely informative – they were of great help to us in understanding how to build capacity of schools to identify pupils vulnerable to under-achieving and to deploy appropriate teaching approaches and interventions. The day has made a great contribution to our work. Thanks again, After participation in visit by Prime Ministers Delivery Unit

Case Study: Boys Write Well Project, Rayleigh, Essex (2015-16) for Essex LA

The reason for support:

  • To support the schools in raising standards in writing, especially boys by the end of Key Stage 2.
  • To develop skills and expertise of SLEs (Specialist Leaders in Education)
  • To develop a network of schools to support each other

How I helped:

Planned and led a programme of support for a network of schools, trained SLES in relevant subject knowledge, designed and coordinated tailored action plans and visit notes, collected joint resources on Google Drive, writing moderation across schools, facilitated meetings to share ideas and practice, led progress and evaluation days across the project.

The impact so far:

  • Raised standards in individual schools
  • Developed confidence of SLEs and supported teachers
  • Good networking between SLEs, teachers and schools

Jennifer has given me a very positive update on your support (SLE) with inspiring our lower writers Headteacher of Supported School

Amy (SLE) was wonderfully helpful in hooking the children in to the subject…the children got so much out of it…it gave me the confidence to do a lesson like this!

Thank you so much! It was absolutely fantastic and we got so much out of it. The lowest ability children were so engrossed-it was wonderful to see them like that! Supported teacher about SLE Support
